Food Friday: Tom Yum Goong

If you asked most Thais what is the best Thai food they will say Tom yum, even though the first thing a Westerner thinks is Pad Thai. Having lived here for a year, I’m likely to agree with the Thais. It’s SO flavourful. Yesterday, we learned how to make it. Tom yum means boiled, with a lot of ingredients, and spicy. And that’s exactly what it is. A good tom yum is a balance of salty, sour, sweet, and spicy.

What We’ll Miss

As crazy as it seems, less than two weeks from now we’ll be saying goodbyes and getting on a plane on our journey back to the US. It’s a little surreal to pack our stuff up and begin to orient our minds towards life stateside. Excuse me… Songkran

This morning while walking back from the store, I was approached by a teenager. “Excuse me… Songkran…” He said apologetically while pouring ice water all down the front of my shirt.
