Monday evening, we arrived in Mae Sot- a city on the Thailand/Myanmar (Burma) border. Our time here has been jam-packed with learning about the trials of the people in the area and the ministries to reach out to them. Behind the Mae Sot Foursquare Church is a school for migrant children. At first glance, you wouldn’t recognize it as a school.

Friday was such a fun day! One of my Thai co-teachers just loves to show foreigners the best things in Thailand. So, he guided us to some great places. It took awhile to get there, but it was great to leave the cement and traffic of the city and replace it with coconut palm groves (I love palm trees :D ), banana trees, and a view of the sky.

In the early church, there was a guy named Joseph. But his friends didn’t call him that. They called him “Barnabas,” which means “Son of encouragement.” (Acts 4:36) We have a family in our life who is our Barnabas, our encouragement. Tom and Nancy Hinton have encouraged us, prayed for us, supported us, pushed us along in our journey, and have been behind us the whole way.

Recently, we went shopping at a huge shopping center with the only major store called, confusingly, “The Mall”. Inside “The Mall” mall, you can buy pretty much anything. Name brand clothing, perfume, jewelry, you name it. All carefully displayed in shiny clean stores, like what you’d imagine at a nice mall in the States. After being there for any length of time, it’s always shocking to walk back out into the steamy heat of Bangkok, with all the smells, smog and noise.

Leelawadee

Last night for a birthday celebration of some friends here, we went out to a nice restaurant called “Leelawadee”. It was a beautiful open-air restaurant, decorated with fountains, bamboo furniture and lanterns, and surrounded with plumeria trees- Leelawadee in Thai (check out their website for pictures!).
While we were there, our friend Ole told us the story of the leelawadee flower…
