God of This City

God of This City

Have you heard this song?

I’m guessing you’ve probably not only heard it, but sung it at church.  Maybe even with pictures of your specific city floating behind the lyrics- like we did in Fort Wayne.  Chris Tomlin’s version is probably the most popular one, but the song was actually written by a band called Bluetree from Northern Ireland.

They wrote it while they were visiting Thailand, and they…. Actually, I’ll just let them tell the story!

From what everyone has told us, Pattaya is as bad as this guy makes it sound… if not worse.  It’s basically sin city, with every type of sex trade, etc happening openly there (although I’ve also been told it has a beautiful beach 😉 ).  This is already a powerful song when you sing it about any city, but somehow it seems even more powerful to me when it’s talking about that kind of city.  Not a suburban American city, but a city that is full of bars and strip clubs… in a country that has so few Christians.

The lyrics:

You’re God of this city, you’re the King of these people, you’re the Lord of this nation, you are…
You’re the Light in this darkness, you’re the Hope to the hopeless, you’re the Peace to the restless, you are…
For there is no one like our God, there is no one like You, God!

Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city!
Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done here.

You’re the Lord of creation, The creator of all things you’re the King above all kings, you are…
You’re the Strength in the weakness, You are Love to the broken, You’re the Joy in the sadness, you are…
For there is none like our God, there is none like you, God!

Pray that God will show his light, bring his hope, and give his peace to the people of Thailand.
