Fat Chicken Day

Obviously, Thanksgiving is not a Thai holiday. No Pilgrims washed ashore here. But, the church in Thailand has adopted this holiday as a time to focus on giving thanks to God for His blessings.
And so, we celebrated as a family this past Sunday. In keeping with good American tradition, there was TONS of food. It was a potluck breakfast AND lunch.
Fun Fact: The Thai word for turkey is translated “fat chicken”. We think that’s fun.
But, I’m getting ahead of myself… before all the eating began, there was a place where you could write little notes to say thank you to someone in the church or a general note of appreciation. After the service, these notes were handed out, producing all kinds of warm feelings.
Breakfast was a conglomeration of Western, Thai and Chinese food.
During the service we heard the story of the Pilgrims. After all, it’s mainly a Christian story, and then an American story. Then, back to eating! Lunch was mostly Thai food. Note of thanks kept getting passed around throughout the meal. God is doing some amazing things, and we’re so thankful for all of it!
