Friendly Staff and Colorful Decorations

The most obvious business housed inside our pink building is the coffee shop. The glass doors and floor to ceiling windows on the first floor make it an appealing site to people walking past. Colorful lights, tasteful decorations and comfortable furniture entice passersby to check it out.

Once inside you can order a variety of drinks: hot or cold espresso drinks, fruity smoothies, chai lattes, cocoa, green tea, Thai tea, or simply a Pepsi.

And they keep branching out into different snack foods as well. There are cookies, little sandwiches, and most recently, ice cream. The most popular is probably toast – two big slabs of white bread, toasted, buttered, cut into small squares, and topped with your choice of jam, chocolate and/or sweetened condensed milk. For Thais, toast is not a breakfast food, it’s dessert.

While the church certainly uses the coffee shop area, it is primarily a business. The purpose of the business is to support the church, train young people, and build relationships with people in the community. It is one method of “business evangelism.” People come in for coffee and are introduced to Our Home Chapel and all the ways we serve the community. It’s also a great place to bring university students to hang out.

By businesses supporting the church, they are able to do much more than they would be able to by tithes alone.

I am personally a fan of Firefly in Fort Wayne. I always get a split-shot vanilla latte there :)

Seekers was cool until it closed…

While I’m not sure it’s technically a coffee shop, I vote for The Checkered Churn in Merrill! Do I hear an ‘amen’? :-) Besides all the happy memories and tasty lunches there, they were my introduction to David Rio chai which is still my favorite.

Seekers was pretty fun. Too bad it closed. My favorite coffee shop is anywhere I can get a good cup, and where I don’t feel like they’re rushing me out.

Chloe! We miss you so much too! We’ll see you in 6 months, but we should skype before then!
