Q: How do you get students to check out church?
A: Go to where they’re at, provide a service that helps them, and build friendships with them! (It also helps to throw in free food)

Making new friends

Making new friends

A few days a week, we hop on a bus, head down two stops, and get off at Ramkhamhaeng University to join English Clinic. Our Home Chapel’s college club, “San-Sai-Yai” (which loosely means “Networking”) puts on English Clinic five days a week at the campus.  Basically, we put up a sign in the commons area saying we offer free English help. We’ll greet students nearby in English, inviting them to sit with us to practice their English. The students who sit with us have all different levels of English. Some are even studying English as their major. But all want to be better in conversational English.

Find where there’s a need and fill it.

Some students we meet we never see again, but many come back week after week. Naturally, we become friends with them. It’s amazing to watch the rapport grow as we speak with a student day after day. We talk about classes, family, work, ambitions, etc. Eventually, it just makes sense to invite your new friends to do something together, and what better than a free meal on a Friday night prior to church service?

Since we meet outside, sometimes we get rained out...

It’s really cool to see students get involved with our group, meet Jesus, and then become leaders themselves. They, in turn, help invite others to English Clinic, and are there to help out in Thai when questions about Jesus come up. It is quite a rewarding ministry to be involved in :).

I think that is so great that you can not only minister to them in English, but also minister to them through the word.Keep up the good work. We love you and pray for you.
