Off to Camp!

0600: Meet at Our Home Center for prayer

0630: Camp registration begins

0800: Buses pull out and head to THE BEACH!!

That’s right!  Tomorrow we leave for English Camp!  We’ve been hearing about and preparing for English camp since we got here two months ago.  And now the anticipation is over!  We’re headed off for three days of teaching English, having fun, and most importantly, building relationships (did you see the video Jason put together?).

The students will be split up into 10 teams, each with several staff members: both English-speakers and Thais.  Each team will make its own name, flag and cheer.  Throughout camp, there will be various games in which the teams will compete against each other.  And from the descriptions I’ve heard, the games promise to be crazy (and fun!) 😉  Makes me remember some of the games we played at Camp Forest Springs when I was a kid (and a counselor!).

One of the highlights for the campers is “Prom Night” on Tuesday night.  Complete with fancy dresses, dancing, etc.  Since they don’t have anything like this at Thai high schools, it’s especially exciting for them (us too!  It will be both Jason and my first “Prom” 😉 ).  Earlier in the day we’ll be giving a “culture lesson” about Prom…  talking about limos, dinner, and how politely a guy should treat a girl.  We’re also doing some “dance lessons.”  Jason and I are teaching swing dancing, and others will go over the basic box-step, and some group dances (yes, we will be doing the macarena…. it’s not quite dead yet 😉 ).  And the culmination of the evening, before announcing Prom King and Queen, will be a special message by Pastor Dton.  One of several exposures to the Gospel the students will have during camp.

So, please be praying:

  • for the staff to have boundless energy
  • for good weather (most events are planned for outdoors)
  • for funds to come through so this will not be a burden on Our Home Chapel’s resources
  • for the 80 students who are coming

And we want to hear from you:  What crazy game do you remember from Summer Camp or Youth Group?

Oh, wow! Let’s see… The best game ever… It would probably have to be when we had 5 hillbilly boys up on stage in front of a hundred or so kids for an eating contest. Problem was that the “food” for the contest was a blended up Happy Meal! Feel free to use that in Thailand! Speaking from cultural experience, they should love it 😉

We look forward to seeing you guys soon!
